From the time of the Revolutionary War to the current crisis in the Middle East, brave men and women have been willing to risk life and limb in the service of our country. They believed that the safety and security of America was more important than their own. Many who embraced this calling did not return. Some that returned were not honored as they should have been; many are still not.
There are currently 658,469 veterans residing in the state of Michigan (VA statistics). According to the National Center for Veterans Analysis & Statistics, Michigan is among the lowest 5 states for spending per veteran. And while these disappointing numbers have greatly improved from 2010 to 2013, we still rank among the lowest 5 states in the Union. Although the payment of financial benefits to veterans is not the only benchmark of how well we are honoring veterans, it still says a lot about where our priorities are.
We are doing our part to honor those senior wartime veterans who have “served and sacrificed throughout the history of the Nation” for our freedom in the Second World War, Korea, Vietnam and even the Gulf War by giving them and their families hope through the Aid & Attendance benefit from VA. They gave their all for our freedom and now we have the opportunity to help them apply for aid, to pay for care in their golden years, which is something which they should not have to worry about.
Your referral to Veteran Support Center helps us help veterans and their spouses. We provide a simple, cost-free application process for Aid & Attendance Benefits which has transformed the lives of literally hundreds of veterans and families across our state. You can read some of their testimonials here.
A nation which honors its heroes is a great nation indeed. Thank you, veterans, for your service.
