Required Military Wartime Service
Posted 8/8/2014

Military service is the first and most important qualification for VA Aid & Attendence.  What is Aid & Attendence?  For a wartime veteran and/or surviving spouse to qualify for a month pension, the veteran must have:
  • Served 90 days of active military duty
  • Served one day during a defined wartime period (see below):

What If You Don't Know the Military Service Dates?
We often run into veterans and families who are not sure if the veteran has served during a wartime period, or, worse yet, do not have a copy of the discharge.

There are several solutions to check out:

  • The county clerk's office where the veteran returned to after the war.

  • National Archives website: www.archives.gov.  On the home page you can click "Veteran's Service Records" and request a copy if one is on record.

  • Michigan Department of Military & Veteran Affairs website: www.mich.gov/dmva.  Click "Request Pertaining to Military Records"  You should be able to obtain a copy if one is on record there.

Military service is the most important qualification, because if it is not met, the veteran or spouse is not eligible for the VA Aid & Attendence Beneft.

There are other qualifcations that must be met.  Please call us today to ask us if a veteran or surviving spouse you know qualifies for benefits.

Our staff are accredited claims agents and process your claim right here in Michigan in our Sterling Heights office.
